A Gracious Inclination

We turn to the Old Testament today to see clear anticipations of the New Testament revelation of Christ as gentle and lowly. The heart of the Son reflects the heart of the Father.

Lamentations 3:31-33

“…for he does not afflict from his heart, or grieve the children of me.” (v. 33)

Illustrations/parallels

Hosea 11:8-9

“How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I hand you over, O Israel?…

My heart recoils within me; my compassion grows warm and tender.” (v. 8)

Exodus 34:6-7

“The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness…” (v. 6)

Response

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29)
