James 4:1-12 describes the problem of fighting and quarreling among Christians and then points us to our only hope — submission to God.

The problem defined — Fights and quarrels (4:1)

The cause of the problem — Who we decide will fulfill our desires (4:1-5)

• The surface cause — Our incorrect thinking (4:1)
• The root cause — Not asking God for help (4:2)
• The root cause is explained — Wrong motives (4:3)
• The reason for the root cause — Rejecting God’s love (4:4)

The source of our help is God (4:5-6)
