Scripture: John

Behold the Lamb of God

The coming of Jesus unveils the purpose of creation and climax of history.

And the Word Became Flesh

God has dwelt with man variously in the past, but in the Incarnation of Jesus He has entered the human realm most humbly, entirely, and forever.  His is the greatest glory! Our only fitting response is praise and surrender.

A Witness with a Role

John the Baptist had a special role as a witness of the coming light. In a similar way, you and I are witnesses of the coming light, and we each have special roles. This passage emphasizes the importance of each of our roles.

The Word

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:1-5

Following the Risen Lord

The foundation for our life and calling is the same as the foundation for the Apostle Peter’s life and calling.

The Persecuted Church: Remembrance & Prayer

“The will of God is always a bigger thing than we bargain for, but we must believe that whatever it involves, it is good, acceptable and perfect.” ― Jim Elliot

Life in the Vine

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.”

The Means and the End

Jesus is the way to the Father, the only way, and to be in the way is to abide with Jesus and, through Him, with the Father.

I Am the Resurrection

“… Christ’s achievement in rising from the dead was the first event of its kind in the whole history of the universe. He is the ‘first fruits,’ the pioneer of life, He has forced open a door that has been locked since the death of the first man. He has met, fought, and beaten the King of Death. Everything is different because He has done so.” — C.S. Lewis

I Am the Good Shepherd

Jesus defined himself as the Good Shepherd. In all four accounts of his life we see him in action. We will look more closely at his qualities as the Good Shepherd, including Peter’s experiences with him, and then we’ll think about the ways we can be involved with Jesus as the Good Shepherd in our lives today.
