Thankful for His Presence

1. So many things to be thankful for, including His presence

2. Examples of His presence in the Old Testament
a. Moses and the wilderness generation (Exodus 33:14-15)
b. The Ark of the covenant returning to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6:14-16)

3. Examples in the New Testament
a. Peter says he has no other person to go but to stay with Jesus (John 6:68-69)
b. The Holy Spirit descends on the believers in Jerusalem (Acts 2:1-4)
c. Paul says that those who believe in Jesus are a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:18-20)

4. Sin can affect the power of His presence in our lives
a. Adam and Eve are displaced from the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:16-24)
b. David’s lament over his egregious sin (Psalm 51:10-12)
c. Jesus threatens to remove the lampstand from the Ephesus church (Revelation 2:2-5)

5. Application: Place great, great, great value in cultivating His presence in your life
a. Have a general, overriding spirit of thankfulness (1 Thessalonians 5:16-22)
b. Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30)
c. On a corporate level, ensure God is in your midst whenever you gather with saints (Matthew 18:20)
d. Look forward with great anticipation to the presence of God the Father and the Lord Jesus in the new Jerusalem (Rev. 21:3; 22:4)
