James shows the evil of favoritism, and the seriousness of full submission to King Jesus.
Obedience is central to the Christian life, but your focus on Jesus determines your heart for obedience. Where is your heart?
“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.”
These are priceless truths in our battle against temptation, and in pursuit of true joy.
Let the person who is poor boast in his high position, and let the rich person boast in his low place of humiliation. (Paraphrase of James 1:9-10)
Sense your lack of wisdom? Good news — God gladly gives all that’s needed for a life that pleases him, to those who seek Him with wholehearted faith.
James sets out aiming to give us an orientation on life that will enable us to face any hardship with poise, and continue on through any struggle with hope.
We change as we learn to do battle with and turn from the desires that take God’s place in our affections.
